Eight Cross Country/Track & Field Athletes Among NCAA Woman of the Year Nominees

The NCAA recently announced its 30 nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Eight competed in either cross country and/or track & field. Eight! That’s more than any other sport.

Here are those nominees from all three NCAA divisions:

  • Vanessa Aniteye, Seattle Pacific
  • Grace Forbes, Rice
  • Divonne Franklin, California (Pa.)
  • Amanda Montplaisir, Minnesota State
  • Birgen Nelson, Gustavus Adolphus
  • Sophia Glory Slovenski, Southern Maine
  • Annika Urban, Emory
  • Madi Wulfekotter, Central Missouri

If you’re curious about how the other sports stacked up: both basketball and swimming and diving had four nominees; field hockey, softball, soccer and volleyball all had two nominees; and acrobatics and tumbling, fencing, golf, ice hockey, tennis and triathlon all had one nominee.

The NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced in January at the annual NCAA Convention.
