Athletes from 48 countries will compete for 17 event titles per gender over the next few days at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston. No country will be more represented than the United States with 262 athletes. Jamaica is second with 41, followed by Great Britain with 12, Canada and Kenya with 11 and then a host of countries in the single digits, led by Nigeria with seven.
Zoom in a bit further and the hometown with the most representation in Boston will be Kingston, Jamaica, with 13 athletes. Houston is next up with nine, followed by five cities with four: Indianapolis, Indiana; London, England; Montego Bay, Jamaica; St. Louis, Missouri; and Toronto, Ontario.
Finally, let’s put the focus on the United States. Athletes from 40 states are in Boston for the climactic meet of the 2024 indoor season, led by Texas with 30. In fact, the next two states combined – California (15) and Illinois (15) – give them as much as Texas. Seven other states have double-digit athletes with Florida and Ohio right behind California and Illinois with 14.
The 2024 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships get underway this afternoon with the weight throw competitions and will wrap up on Saturday evening with the 4×400 relays.
