Jacious Sears, Colin Sahlman Highlight Jaw-Dropping Weekend

Collegians turned in big marks from sea to shining sea.

Better yet, between Florid and California, specifically.

Allow us to try to put what happened into words for you.

Goodness, Jacious!

10.77.

Read that again: 10.77.

Jacious Sears of Tennessee clocked the second-fastest wind-legal mark in collegiate history in the 100 meters this past weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial. Sears ripped the straightaway in 10.77 seconds with a 1.6 m/s tailwind at her back to join 2019 The Bowerman winner Sha’Carri Richardson as the only two women to go sub-10.78 wind-legal.

If you broaden the scope to include all-conditions marks, Sears is just the fourth collegiate woman to eclipse that standard, joining Richardson, 2023 The Bowerman winner Julien Alfred and former North Carolina A&T standout Cambrea Sturgis.

Go West For Fast 1500s

The Bryan Clay Invitational has been a hotbed for fast collegiate 1500-meter efforts. After all, three of the top-4 marks in collegiate history prior to this weekend had been registered in Azusa, California.

Well, you might as well add two more to the list.

Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona and Nathan Green of Washington put on a clinic this past Saturday night. Sahlman and Green went 3:33.96 and 3:34.79 for the second- and fourth-fastest marks in collegiate history. The record, if you’re curious, is 3:33.74 by Eliud Kipsang from 2022.
