Men’s Story

New Mexico JC earned men’s top honors with 8 points – the same total as last year – as the T-Birds were fourth in cross country before a pair of runner-up finishes in indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.

Moving up to second is Iowa Western CC with 13 points, improving their score by eight points from last year. The Reivers finished fifth in cross country and indoor track & field before ending the year with a third outdoors.

In their POY rankings debut, Indian Hills (Iowa) CC is third with 16 points. The Warriors won the indoor track & field title after finishing 10th in cross country and before a fifth outdoors.

Also making its debut is Salt Lake (Utah) CC, earning fourth place with 26.5 points. The Bruins were runners-up in cross country before finishing 11th indoors and tying for 13th outdoors.

In fifth is Colby (Kan.) CC with 27 points, earning the tiebreaker over Pima (Ariz.) CC based on having the best single-sport finish – in this case third in cross country. The Trojans added placings of the 16th and eighth at the indoor and outdoor track & field championships.

Women’s Story

New Mexico JC repeats at the top, but the margin of 1.5 POY points is much closer than year’s nine points. The T-Birds started off with a runner-up finish in cross country, then placed third at the indoor track & field championships. At this point, they had five POY and were 0.5 POY points out of the lead, but a successful defense of their outdoor track & field title brought them home with 6 points.

Iowa Western CC is second with 8.5 points after finishing fourth last year with 20 points. The Reivers started off with a third-place finish in cross country before tying for the indoor track & field title and finishing fourth outdoors.

In third – a climb of seven positions from last year – is Central Arizona with 19 points. The Vaqueras were sixth in cross country and indoors before a seventh outdoors.

Cloud County (Kan.) CC is fourth with 21 points, joining NMJC and IWCC with a second-straight top-5 finish. These T-Birds – runner-up last year – followed a 14th-place finish in cross country with track & field placings of fourth indoors and third outdoors.

Making its POY rankings debut is Colby (Kan.) CC, fifth with 23 points. The Trojans had three top-10 finishes – fifth in cross country, 10th indoors and eighth outdoors.
