Convention Update: Kevin LaSure Honored With Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kevin LaSure is this year’s recipient of the Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award.

LaSure was feted on Tuesday during General Session of the 2024 USTFCCCA Convention at the Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to an individual who has gone above and beyond in the call of duty in their service to the Association and to the sports of cross country and track & field.

LaSure is currently the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country at the Academy of Art. He was promoted to that role in July 2018 after three years as the program’s head coach of track & field since August 2015. Prior to ART U, LaSure spent eight years at the University of New Haven.

No matter where LaSure coached, though, he has been an integral part of the Association’s legislative process since 2008. Among his first duty was serving as the Northeast-10 Conference representative to the Association’s NCAA DII Track & Field Executive Committee in 2011 and quickly rose through the ranks to President of that Executive Committee in 2018. Six years later, LaSure is the Executive Council Chair of the Association’s NCAA DII Track & Field Executive Committee and an NCAA DII At-Large Representative on the USTFCCCA Board of Directors.

Athletes and teams have thrived under LaSure’s direction, especially at ART U. The Urban Knights have totaled 21 NCAA individual championships, 221 All-America honors and 148 PacWest Conference event championships, among other accomplishments, during his tenure.
