Calvin Men & NYU Women Move to the Top in the Division III Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – Calvin’s men and the NYU women have moved to the top of their respective regions in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Regional Rankings released Tuesday.

Division III XC Rankings Central

Calvin (No. 24 nationally) moved into a share of the top spot in the men’s Great Lakes Region with rival Wabash (No. 13) after beating the Little Giants by just one point at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational this past weekend, 234-235.

The Knights have a lot at stake in the Regional Rankings, as they are in the midst of an impressive 17-year streak of consecutive regional titles.

NYU’s women (No. 15 nationally) leapt two spots to the top of the women’s Atlantic Region after a team crown at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble over SUNY Geneseo No. 10), the top team in last week’s regional rankings.

Geneseo was displaced to No. 2 in the region, while St. Lawrence (No. 14 nationally) fell to third in the region. St. Lawrence has claimed each of the past four regional titles.

Elsewhere in the men’s rankings:

  • Washington (Mo.) (No. 3 nationally) moved past UW-La Crosse (No. 2) into the second spot in the Midwest Region after finishing runner-up to defending national champion No. 1 North Central (Ill.) at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational, 33-64.
  • UW-La Crosse finished a distant runner-up to St. Olaf (No. 5) at its own Jim Drews Invitational, 41-96, to fall to third in the Midwest Region. UW-Eau Claire (No. 14) and UW-Oshkosh (No. 7) swapped places at No. 4 and No. 5.
  • The New England Region underwent yet another shift as Bowdoin (No. 25 nationally) moved up three spots to third in the region, while Bates (No. 12) fell a spot to fourth and Tufts (No. 18) dropped two to sixth.

Significant moves in the women’s rankings include:

  • Washington (Mo.)’s women (No. 26 nationally) mirrored their male teammates and moved up to No. 2 in the Midwest Region, up two spots from a week ago. UW-La Crosse (No. 16) dropped to third. Aurora (No. 23) dropped from third to sixth, displaced by UW-Stevens Point (receiving national votes) up one spot and North Central (Ill.) up four spots.
  • Carleton (No. 21 nationally) moved up one spot into the second spot in the Central Region, displacing St. Olaf (No. 18) to third.

NCAA Division III Regionals will be held Sunday, November 16. More information can be found at Regional Championships Central.
