Kentucky’s Jake Most Named 2015 Excellence in Communications Award Winner for NCAA DI T&F
EUGENE, Oregon — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is pleased to announce Kentucky media relations assistant Jake Most as the recipient of the second-annual USTFCCCA Excellence in Communications Award for the 2015 NCAA Division I Track & Field season.
Perhaps no sports information employee in the country did more to promote, disseminate, and cover a track meet than Most – who is in his third year with the Wildcats – did for the Rod McCravy Memorial in January.
His two-part preview, tireless work in getting a high-quality live stream of the meet, and accessibility before and after the meet were simply exemplary SID work for what was among the biggest meets of the entire track & field season.
Most didn’t just give us a quick rundown of the entries focused mostly on Kentucky athletes—he covered every highly ranked team and highlighted every returning indoor All-American. All of this combined to not only get Kentucky fans excited about the meet, but also track & field followers from around the country.
Most’s articles and social media posts nearly always contain one or more useful and attractive infographics. From historic perspectives on Kentucky’s recent ascent to college track & field’s elite to individualized graphics for SEC Champions and NCAA Division I Championships qualifiers, Most had all angles covered.
All of this came in addition to timely, engaging and insightful updates on Kentucky’s competitions.
Kentucky track & field’s presence on social media was entertaining and Most’s articles—assisted by Grant Gearheart and Ryan Cox—on ukathletics.com were clear and relevant. Many of these were often augmented by video clips giving us an inside look at the program. These videos ranged from six-second Vines of performances to minutes-long interviews with athletes and coaches.
The 2012 LSU graduate also worked as the media coordinator at several SEC championship meets over the last two years.
SEC assistant director of communications Sean Cartell said that in that role, Most’s “leadership, unique vision and rock-solid work ethic led the communications efforts at those championship events to be among the best in the decades-long history of the SEC Championship.”
The award winners for NCAA Divisions II and III will be announced in late June.
