

Convention Update: Track & Field Academy Courses
NEW ORLEANS – From track & field coaching newcomers to seasoned veterans, the Track & Field Academy has offerings for everyone at the 2015 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Convention in San Antonio, Texas, this December.
Nine classes, ranging from the popular “201: Track & Field Technical Certification” to the advanced “Master’s Endorsement Program” courses, will be taught at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa by some of the world’s top coaches and clinicians.
Please note that enrollment in Track & Field Academy courses at the USTFCCCA Convention is a separate process and cost from the Convention registration.
Most courses are held prior to or on the official December 15 start date of the USTFCCCA Convention. Additionally, the “310: Strength & Conditioning Certification” course will be held following the Convention on December 18-19.

201. T&F Technical Certification
Dec. 13 (1pm – 8pm) & Dec. 14 (8am – 4pm) | $135

A certification granting course covering training design and technical instruction in a variety of Track & Field event areas. Topics include training components, training design, technical instruction and teaching progressions in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500/1600, 3K/3200, 5K, 10K, 100/110h, 300/400h, Glide SP, DT, JT, LJ, TJ, HJ, PV, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400.
202. T&F Program Management Certification

A certification granting course covering all non-technical aspects of Track & Field coaching. Topics include ethics, roster management, budget, finance, equipment, academic monitoring, entries, eligibility, meet management
310. Strength & Conditioning Certification
Dec. 18 (1pm – 8:30pm) & Dec. 19 (8am – 8:30pm) | $195

A detailed course covering all aspects of strength training, and other key athletic qualities. Successful completion of the course and its evaluations grants the Track & Field Academy’s Strength & Conditioning Certification. This course is open to anyone, and credit received for successfully completing the course is applicable to the Master’s Endorsement Program.
401. International Competition Protocol in T&F

The course is designed to familiarize the coach with international meet operational procedures so that the coach (and athlete) might be better prepared should these opportunities arise. This course is open to anyone, and credit received for successfully completing the course is applicable to the Master’s Endorsement Program.
403. Testing & Measurement in T&F Coaching
Dec. 14 (8am – 12pm) | $65

This course is designed to assist coached in developing testing programs, interpreting data, performance prediction, and to familiarize the coach with norms for high level performance. This course is open to anyone; a credit earned by successfully completing the course is applicable to the Master’s Endorsement Program.
404. Meet Management for the T&F Coach

A course covering all facets of Meet Operations including meet information, entries, timing, equipment, scheduling, managing officials, promotions, athlete flow, and cross country meet management. 407. Weight Training for T&F

A course covering weight training for Track & Field. Topics include adaptations to weight training, weight training exercise selection, technique, and teaching, and weight training program design for all event area. This course is open to anyone, and credit received for successfully completing the course is applicable to the Master’s Endorsement Program.
508. Javelin Masters Edorsement
Dec. 13 (12pm – 8pm) & Dec. 14 (8am – 4pm) | $215

A high level endorsement granting course that covers the coaching and preparation of javelin throwers at all levels. Topics include athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Javelin Throw.
Prerequisites to take the Course: Courses 304, and four of the following: 401, 403, 405, 406, 407 or 310, 408. Prerequisites for Certification: 6 Years formal Coaching Experience, Courses 304, 401, 403, 405, 406, 407 or 310, 408. Prerequisites may be taken in any order.
513. Cross Country Masters Endorsement

A high level endorsement granting course that covers coaching and preparation in the sport of Cross Country at all levels. Topics include athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to Cross Country.
Prerequisites to take the Course: Courses 305, and four of the following: 401, 403, 405, 406, 407 or 310, 409. Prerequisites for Certification: 6 Years formal Coaching Experience, Courses 305, 401, 403, 405, 406, 407 or 310, 409. Prerequisites may be taken in any order.
