NEW ORLEANS – After what transpired this past weekend across the nation in NCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track & Field, it’s clear we’re in for a treat come June.
Athletes posted top marks on the track and in the field at meets in South Carolina, Texas and California – and everywhere in between.
It also became quite obvious in the most recent National Team Computer Rankings that were released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) that Florida is the team to beat. While that statement isn’t much of a surprise based on the fact that the Gators have been the top-ranked team since the preseason, Mike Holloway’s team increased its lead a staggering amount between Week 2 and Week 3.

Florida owned a 30.77-point lead over 2nd-ranked Texas A&M in Week 2. The Gators pushed that edge to 101.16 points after their effort at the Horned Frog Invitational hosted by TCU.
Grant Holloway made his outdoor debut in his signature events and notched a pair of top-5 marks in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings. Holloway clocked a time of 13.51 in the 110 hurdles to put him 4th on that chart, then followed it up with a leap of 8.04m (26-4½) in the long jump.
KeAndre Bates also starred in Fort Worth, Texas, and hit a windy 8.13m (26-8¼) to put him 2nd in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings for the long jump. Texas Tech’s Charles Brown is No. 1.
Speaking of Brown and the Red Raiders, they were one of two teams that jumped two spots in the top-10 this week. The other was LSU after Johnnie Jackson chucked the hammer 70.47m (231-2) and moved up to No. 10 in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings.

For those uninitiated, the USTFCCCA Event Rankings are a composite list using marks from the current season and previous seasons until enough data can be collected from the current one.
Ole Miss moved up one spot to No. 13 thanks to Craig Engels, who was part of an incredible 1500 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Engels finished runner-up to New Mexico’s Josh Kerr and recorded the 3rd fastest time in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings (3:37.75).
The biggest jump of the week belonged to Colorado State. The Rams continue to climb up the rankings and come in at No. 16 this week, a 9-spot jump from Week 2. That also established a new high-water mark for Colorado State in program history. The Rams saw Mostafa Hassan heave the shot put 21.31m (69-11) to move up to No. 1 in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings.
South Carolina went from No. 24 to No. 17 after Ncincilili Titi clocked a time of 20.14 in the 200 meters at their home invitational and is now 3rd in the USTFCCCA Event Rankings.
With less than two months remaining until the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, you’ll want to check back as often as possible to see how the rankings change between now and June 7-10.
