2018 NCAA DII Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Rankings – Week 6

NEW ORLEANS – With just one weekend separating now and the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, it looks like it may be a three-team race heading into Pittsburg, Kansas.
Grand Valley State, West Texas A&M and Adams State sit first, second and third, respectively, but the trio have made up the top-three of the NCAA Division II National Team Rankings every week since the third week of the season. Week six, announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), was no different.

The GVSU Lakers dominated the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, posting four top-10 NCAA Division II Descending Order List marks in the process. The Lakers were led by weight thrower Bobbie Goodwin who recorded a 19.71m (64-8) toss that sits fourth in NCAA Division II this year.
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M also took home a conference title, thanks in large part to Fatim Affessi’s outing at the Lone Star Conference Championships. The native of Switzerland posted the top long jump and triple jump marks in all of NCAA Division II this year while entering her name into the NCAA Division II collegiate record books in both events. Both of Affessi’s marks were NCAA Division II Automatic Qualifying Marks, as was teammate Rellie Kaputin’s long jump mark.
Unlike the two teams ahead of them in the rankings, Adams State did not win a conference title. But that did not stop the program from putting together solid marks in order to keep its third-place ranking. The Grizzlies’ distance medley relay squad ran a 12:00.54 at the RMAC Championships, putting themselves in third on the Descending Order List.

Pittsburg State and Western State flip-flopped spots this week, with the Gorillas leaping the Mountaineers for fourth. The Gorillas got NCAA Division II Automatic Qualifying Marks from Courtney Nelson in the 60 hurdles and Haven Lander in the pole vault at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Angelo State remained in sixth on the week, while San Francisco State jumped two spots to seventh. The Gators took part in the BU Last Chance Qualifier where the squad ran the fastest 4×400 relay in NCAA Division II this year at 3:41.82. Atiya Harvey also posted a 24.06 in the 200, good for third in NCAA Division II on the season.
Lincoln (Mo.) returned to the top-10 this week at eighth after Diana Cauldwell hit an NCAA Division II Automatic Qualifying Mark in the triple jump at 12.69m (41-7¾).
Bellarmine rose to ninth on the week, while Azusa Pacific rounded out the top-10 after falling three spots from seventh.
There is only one more week of rankings ahead of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships take place in Pittsburg, Kansas, on March 9-10.
