2018 NCAA DIII Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Rankings – Week 6

NEW ORLEANS – Conference Championship Weekend shook up the NCAA Division III Descending Order Lists, which in turn altered the newest Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Team Rankings released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Only four teams remained in place from Week 5 and two of them are in the top-5 – No. 1 North Central (Ill.) and No. 2 Mount Union.

Otherwise, here is how the top-5 shakes out behind the Cardinals and Purple Raiders: No. 3 Christopher Newport, No. 4 Rowan and No. 5 UW-La Crosse.

The Captains moved up four spots between Week 5 and Week 6 thanks to the efforts of two athletes – Ryan Scott and Cullen Monahan. Scott recorded the third best time in the nation in the 60 hurdles (8.06), while Monahan is now ranked fourth in the 800 (1:51.82). This is the best ranking in program history for CNU, as it tops the previous high-water mark by one spot.

UW-Eau Claire nearly cracked the top-5 for the first time since Week 2 of 2017. The Blugolds jumped four spots from No. 10 to No. 6 after David Kornack turned in the second best mark of the season in the shot put (17.51m/57-5½) and Dylan Cooper notched the third best score in the nation in the heptathlon (5107 points).

St. John Fisher comes in at No. 9, its best ranking in program history. The Cardinals have the nation’s best long jumper on their roster (Mark Vanmarter) and now have the fifth best hurdler in the nation in Peter Girardi (8.11).

Speaking of top performances, Middlebury saw Jimmy Martinez reel off the quickest time of the season over 400 meters. Martinez crossed the finish line in 47.81 and the Panthers soared nine spots in the rankings from No. 24 to No. 15.

Baldwin Wallace, the 22nd-ranked team in the nation, got a top mark from Jordan Leverette in the 200 this past weekend. Leverette scorched the track to the tune of 21.48 and the Yellow Jackets jumped six spots.

There was a pair of teams from Wisconsin that jumped more than 12 spots this week: UW-Stevens Point went from No. 34 to No. 20 and UW-Platteville went from No. 41 to No. 24.
