NAIA OTF National Athletes of the Week (March 21)

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The NAIA announced its Outdoor Track & Field National Athletes of the Week on Wednesday.

Brandon Smiley of Indiana Tech and Brandt Wolters of McPherson (Kan.) were named the Men’s Track and Men’s Field Athletes of the Week, while Emily Kearney of SCAD Savannah (Ga.) and Cheyenne White of Indiana Tech brought home the women’s honors.

Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Brandon Smiley, Indiana Tech
Fr., Livonia, Mich.

  • Finished first in the 200-meter dash with a NAIA season-best time of 20.95 
  • Smiley ran the third leg of an ‘A’ standard 4×100-meter run with a time of 40.77
  • The 4×100-meter relay currently holds the second-fastest time in the nation this season

Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Brandt Wolters, McPherson (Kan.)
Jr., Osborne, Kan.

  • Placed first in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 61.54
  • Wolters set the top mark in the NAIA with his first throw of the season
  • Wolters leads all other NAIA Javelin Throws by almost seven feet

Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Emily Kearney, SCAD Savannah (Ga.)
So., Wirral, U.K. 

  • Recorded a first-place finish in the 5000-meter run 
  • Kearney finished with a time of 16:54.12, which shattered the previous best of the season by 38 seconds
  • Kearney outran 44 athletes from both NAIA and NCAA Division I schools
  • Kearney beat the NAIA ‘A’ mark by 54 seconds

Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Cheyenne White, Indiana Tech
So., Waukegan, Ill.

  • Placed third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump
  • White hit ‘A’ marks in both of those events
  • White had a better mark than 39 athletes in the long jump and 32 athletes in the triple jump
