NEW ORLEANS – The end of the season means ramped up competition.

That was the case on Monday when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the newest NCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index following a major weekend of collegiate track & field action.

BYU was on a mission at the Payton Jordan Invitational to collect as many top-5 marks as possible in the TFRI Individual Rankings. It’s safe to say, “Mission Accomplished.”
The Cougars saw Connor McMillan and Matt Owens each move up to No. 3 in the 10,000 and steeplechase, respectively, while Conner Mantz and Rory Linkletter are each fourth in the 5000 and 10,000, respectively. (Remember: The TFRI Individual Rankings don’t reset in the distance events or multis after previous season marks are discarded. This is due to the lack of quantifiable quality marks compared to other events)

No team jumped more spots in the top-25 than North Carolina A&T after its virtuoso performance at the MEAC Championships this past weekend. The Aggies vaulted over 13 teams on their way to the No. 6 spot, their highest ranking in program history. It is also the first time that North Carolina A&T has been ranked in the top-10 of the TFRI indoors or outdoors.
Trevor Stewart and Rodney Rowe were the stars of the meet for the Aggies. Stewart took over the national lead in the 400 with his time of 44.38 and became the 14th best performer in collegiate history in the process (He is also ranked seventh nationally in the 200). Rowe notched national top-5 marks in both the 200 (20.12) and the 100 (10.05) to bolster A&T’s depth in the sprints. Akeem Sirleaf improved his national standing to sixth in the 400 and ninth in the 200.
