2019 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 10

NEW ORLEANS – It’s Championship Week!

That means it’s time for the final edition of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index that was released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.

With the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for this Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, May 25 in Kingsville, Texas, this final index will serve as a good preview for what is expected to happen this weekend when the top teams in the country meet to battle for the hardware

For a program record nine straight weeks, Angelo State was once again selected as the No. 1 team in the Men’s National Rating Index.

The Rams had 13 athletes qualify for nationals and will look to be led by standout sprinter Z’Antyler Foster-Hooks (third in both the 100 and 200), throwers Decio Andrade (tops the nation in the hammer) and Nils Fischer (second in the javelin) and a decathlon unit that includes four of the top-seven athletes in the event headlined by Trpimir Siroki (second in the country overall).

Angelo State is seeking its first-ever men’s NCAA DII outdoor title in program history. 

Moving up one spot into the No. 2 position was last year’s outdoor champions, Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Javelins had eight athletes advance to nationals overall as the group will look towards Valentin Charles (leads the nation in the decathlon), Dyshon Vaugh (tops in the long jump), Ayman Zahafi (second in the 800) and Richard Cervantes (third in both the shot and discus), among others, to carry the scoring load.

Dropping a single spot to No. 3 was Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Lions earned 14 entries to the national meet as the group will look to make some noise with Josh Boateng (first in the discus and fourth in the shot put), Joseph Brown (second overall in the discus), Rashard Clark (third in the 400 and fourth in the 200), Stadrian Taylor (fourth in the 100), Dorian Andrews (fifth in the 110H) and their top-ranked 4×100 unit.

Holding steady in the No. 4 spot was Lincoln.

The Blue Tigers will send seven athletes to the national meet with the best of the bunch being Raymone Campbell (tops the nation in the 200 and eighth in the 100), Javan Gray (second in the 200 and sixth in the 100), Ryan Brown (second overall in long and triple jump) and Kizan David (sixth in the long and 15th in the triple).

Remaining at No. 5 was West Texas A&M.

The Buffaloes will have six individuals and two relays teams at outdoors led by Abraham Seaneke (first in the triple and fourth in the long jump), Quinton Sansing (fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 400) and Nicolai Hartling (third in the 400H).

Looking to make some noise in making up the rest of the top-10 was Ashland, Adams State, Grand Valley State, Colorado School of Mines, Central Missouri.

Grand Valley State made it eight weeks in a row at the top of the Women’s National Rating Index.

The Lakers, who had 26 entries by 21 individuals and two relay teams to nationals, will look to see a majority of their points from Rachael Walters (tops the nation in the 800), Allie Ludge (fourth in the 1500), Hanna Groeber (fourth in the steeple), Gina Patterson (fourth in the 10000) and Bobbie Goodwin (fourth in the hammer). The pole vaulting unit will be one to watch as well as Grand Valley has four of the top-six athletes in the event including No. 2 ranked Ellianne Kimes.

GVSU is seeking its first outdoor team title since the 2012 outdoor season. 

Remaining in the No. 2 spot was last year’s title-winner Lincoln (Mo.) who will have nine athletes competing at the national meet.

Standouts of the group include Rene Medley (tops the nation in both the 100 and 200), Christine Moss (fifth in the 2000 and 10th in the 100), Kissi-Ann Brown (second in the 400 and third in the 400H and the 400 trio of Renea Ambersley and Christine Moss (second and third respectively).

Holding pat in the No. 3 spot was Adams State as the program had 12 selections for the national meet.

The Grizzlies, who are seeking their first outdoor national title, are led by Dianna Johnson (second in the 100 and fourth in the 200), Eilish Flanagan (second in both the steeple and 5000) and the 1500 duo of Roisin Flanagan and Stephanie Cotter (first and second in the event overall). 

Staying strong in the No. 4 spot was Missouri Southern as the group will be sending 12 individuals in 14 events to NCAAs in search of its first national outdoor title in program history.

The best of the group entering the national meet are Emily Presley (leads the country in the pole vault), Desirea Buerge (second in the shot and discus) and a javelin group with four of the top-20 athletes in the event led by national-leader Morgan Ash.

Rounding out the top-five at No. 5 was the Rams from Angelo State as the group qualified 10 athletes and two relay squads to nationals.

The Rams will look towards Daisy Osakue (No. 1 in the discus and No. 6 in the discus), Karlea Duhon (second in the heptathlon), Talena Murray (third in the javelin), Trenadey Scott (fourth in the triple) and Faith Roberson (fifth in the 400H), among others.

The reset of the top-10 was completed by SF State, West Texas A&M, Saint Augustine’s, Texas A&M-Commerce and Pittsburg State, in that following order.
