Not One, Not Two…
The Terrier DMR Challenge lived up to the hype.
Three women’s teams smashed the previous collegiate record inside the BU Track & Tennis Center, set just last year: Washington won the race and lowered its own standard from 10:46.62 to an otherworldly 10:43.39; Providence finished a strong runner-up at 10:44.07; and then BYU wasn’t too far behind either at 10:44.67. The next four teams all went sub-10:53.00: Stanford (10:47.03), Penn State (10:49.05), Boston College (10:50.00) and Virginia Tech (10:52.51).
Chloe Foerster, Anna Terrell, Marlena Preigh and Carley Thomas were the Huskies on the track. Foerester started things off with a 1200-meter leg of 3:15.29, followed by 54.74 effort over 400 meters by Terrell and a 2:03.34 clocking by Preigh, capped by a 4:30.02 anchor by Thomas.
Three Under 9:20 At Razorback Qualifier
The Randal Tyson Track Center is no stranger to quick times in the men’s distance medley relay. After all, the 15 fastest marks in collegiate history on a record-legal track were all clocked in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Well, let’s add a few more to that list – but not a collegiate record.
Washington, Virginia, Oklahoma State and Arkansas all notched all-time top-10 performances on Friday. The Huskies won the race in 9:18.81 for the third-fastest performance in collegiate history, while the Cavaliers, Cowboys and Razorbacks came in at 9:18.95, 9:19.74 and 9:20.09 for the fourth-, sixth- and eighth-fastest marks on the same chart, respectively. Virginia saw its stock rise from the seventh-fastest program in collegiate history to the third.
NOTE: Washington went under the current American indoor record in the event of 9:19.93 and all four Huskies are American, which would count as an American indoor record pending ratification. For now, it is safe to call it an American indoor best.
Oversized Track; Big-Time Marks
The Alex Wilson Invitational delivered yet again.
Northern Arizona and North Carolina both went sub-9:18 in the men’s race at 9:17.43 and 9:17.92, respectively, while host Notre Dame blew the doors off the women’s field to win by 11 seconds in 10:44.62, which is the fastest time on an oversized track in collegiate history.
