The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution’s finish at the NJCAA Championships.

In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NJCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NJCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

Men’s Story

New Mexico JC has the lead in a bid for a second-straight POY award. The T-Birds have 6 points, which is 4 POY points ahead of Iowa Western CC (10) with Indian Hills (Iowa) CC (11) a close third.

NMJC  was fourth in the DI cross country championships and runner-up at the indoor track & field championships, while the Reivers – fourth in last year’s standing for this award – finished fifth in both and the Warriors won their first-ever indoor crown after taking 10th in cross country.

Another tight group follows in fourth and fifth with Salt Lake (Utah) CC and Trinidad State (Colo.) at 13 and 13.5 points, respectively. The Trojans of Trinidad and Bruins of Salt Lake were 1-2 in the DI cross country championships.

Women’s Story

This is a very close race with Iowa Western CC leading last year’s winner, New Mexico JC, by just 0.5 points, 4.5 to 5.

The Reivers tied for the team title in the indoor track & field championships following a third-place finish in DI cross country, while the T-Birds were runner-up in DI cross country and finished third in indoor track & field.

Rounding out the top-5 are Central Arizona (12), DI cross country champion Salt Lake (Utah) CC (14) and Colby (Kan.) CC (15).
