NCAA DIII wTF All-Academic AthletesScholar Athletes of the Year and All-Academic for DIII Women’s Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – Linfield’s Catherine Street, Mount Union’s Aubree Jones, and Wartburg’s Laura Sigmund and Alana Enabnit were named as Scholar Athletes of the Year in Division III for the 2012 women’s track & field seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The group represents collegiate track & field’s best in both athletics and academics. In addition, 340 student-athletes were tapped as USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees.
Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest in individual events at the most recent NCAA Championships. Those who earn multiple individual championship titles rank higher in the tie-breaking process, and cumulative GPA is weighed as the final tiebreaker to establish a winner. Separate awards are given to track athletes and field athletes for the indoor and outdoor seasons, resulting in four categories.
Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year –
Laura Sigmund, Wartburg
Sigmund, a native of Stanhope, Iowa, was the indoor NCAA champion in the 5000 meters and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.93. Sigmund also anchored Wartburg’s DMR to a third-place showing at the national championships.
Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year –
Catherine Street, Linfield
Street won the NCAA indoor title in the pole vault and carries a cumulative GPA of 3.66. The native of Wilsonville, Ore., went on to win USTFCCCA National Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors as she claimed the outdoor pole vault national crown as well.
Outdoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year –
Alana Enabnit, Wartburg
A native of Clear Lake, Iowa, Enabnit has a cumulative GPA of 3.92 through the spring semester. She was the NCAA champ in the 5000 and 10,000 meters this May at the national outdoor championships.
Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year –
Aubree Jones, Mount Union
Jones, a native of Falconer, N.Y., was the NCAA’s discus champion this spring and maintains a 3.67 cumulative GPA.

340 Earn All-Academic Status
In addition to the Scholar Athletes of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced the women’s 2012 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 340 student-athletes representing 107 institutions compose the group. Wartburg and Williams each had 12 named to the All-Academic Team to lead the country in the category. MIT had the third-most with 11 and were followed by St. Thomas (Minn.), Illinois Wesleyan, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-La Crosse who each had ten.
The WIAC was the top conference in All-Academic honorees with 48. The NESCAC and MIAC followed with 37 and 27, respectively.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
