All-America Honorees Announced for 2015 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Season

NEW ORLEANS – The 2015 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-Americans were honored Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for finishing in the top eight in their events at the national championships. 

Athletes competed at the national meet May 7-9 at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.

Leah Kloss of Harper led all athletes with seven All-American honors.  As just a freshman, she won the 100 and 200 meters and finished in the top five in the long jump, hammer, and javelin. Kloss also carried the baton on Harper’s winning 4×100 meter relays and fourth-place 4×400 meter relay.

Trailing Kloss on the women’s side were heptathletes Zhane Ridley of Delhi and Dora Mayen of Suffolk.  The duo—who went 1-2 in the heptathlon and racked up honors in five other events each—were both six-time All-Americans.

Six men led the way with four All-American awards in New York.  They were Saheed Oyeshile and Sheldon Wilson of Montgomery-Rockville, Saliym Starkey and Martin Maldonado of Rowan-Gloucester, Khalil Gravesande of Queensborough, and Walter Briggs of SUNY Delhi.

Briggs’s Delhi squad won the national team title and led all men’s teams with forty-two All-American honors. (For example, one athlete who wins three All-Americans would be counted three times for her team) Second in the team A-A tally was third-place Montgomery-Rockville, which had thirty-three All-Americans.

Delhi also had the most All-American women.  They finished second at the national meet and had the most top-eight finishes with thirty-eight, two ahead of national champion Mohawk’s thirty-six.
