NEW ORLEANS — What a difference a week makes.

One week after seeing the top-10 of the NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Team Rankings go unchanged, there are 7 changes in this week’s top-10, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

West Texas A&M and Pittsburg State remain atop of the heap, but spots 3 through 9 all saw some sort of movement.

Adams State climbed to a season-best 3rd, marking the program’s highest ranking since the last week of the 2014 season, after a strong performance from Jenna Thurman at the Hillsdale Relays. It was there where the Grizzly junior ran a 16:09.84 in the 5000 meters, good for 2nd on the descending order list.

Grand Valley State moved to 5th for the program’s 1st top-5 ranking of the season. Angela Ritter (23.87 in the 100 meters) and Stacey Metzger (16:35.07 in the 5000 meters) both produced top-10 descending order marks for the Lakers on the weekend.

Chadron State’s Stachia Reuwsaat – this week’s USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women’s National Athlete of the Week – and teammate Mel Hurl were outstanding at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational this past weekend, helping the Eagles climb to a program-best 7th place. Reuwsaat recorded the top mark in NCAA Division II this year in the long jump, leaping 6.61m (21-8¼), good for 1st on the season and 3rd in the NCAA Division II outdoor collegiate record book. Hurl also posted the top mark in her field, recording a shot put mark of 16.06m (52-8¼) at the same meet.

There was significant movement outside of the top-10, as well. A total of 10 teams either rose or fell at least 3 spots from a week ago.

The biggest rise in the rankings on the week belonged to Hillsdale, who jumped 5 spots to 25th to return to the top-25 for the 1st time since the 4th week of the season. Shippensburg (13th), Academy of Art (17th) and Minnesota State (18th) all saw 4-spot increases in their rankings from a week ago.

The 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from May 25-27. Check back at www.USTFCCCA.org each week throughout the season for updated rankings.
