USTFCCCA Cancels 2020 Edition of Annual Convention
NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is disappointed to announce the cancellation of the 2020 USTFCCCA Convention, which was scheduled to be held December 14-17 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort outside of Denver. The cancellation of this year’s convention is a result of meeting restrictions placed on hotel properties by the State of Colorado as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“To conduct our 2020 USTFCCCA Convention under the current mandated meeting restrictions at our contracted property, would be impossible,” said Sam Seemes, CEO of the USTFCCCA. “We tried a mixture of several permutations and combinations of scheduling and programming, to conduct the 2020 event, but the restrictions are just too much to overcome.”
The 2020 convention would have been the association’s 16th and its first in the Denver area. The USTFCCCA and the Gaylord Rockies have collaborated to roll over this year’s agreement to similar dates in 2022.
“I’d like to thank the management team at the Gaylord Rockies for their partnership in dealing with this situation,” Seemes said. “I know the hotel industry has been hit exceptionally hard by the ongoing pandemic, so I am very grateful for their understanding and flexibility amid these challenges.”
Unfortunately, the convention cancellation also nullifies the naming of a USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame class in 2020. The annual hall-of-fame induction and presentation of The Bowerman, which was previously cancelled, are normally mainstay events at the USTFCCCA Convention.
Next week, the USTFCCCA will announce a series of technical symposiums that will be conducted online over the months of November and December as one method of access to continuing education for the membership.
Looking ahead, the JW Marriott Grande Lakes Orlando is slated to host the USTFCCCA Convention for the sixth time in organization history in December 2021.
