NEW ORLEANS – Here is the first installment of the NJCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index for the 2021 season, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

To wit: We’re only using marks from the current season, which gives a true look at which teams are performing the best at the current moment. That means the National TFRI will continue to evolve throughout the season and gives you more reason to keep checking back!

South Plains (Texas) holds down the top spot to begin the season. The Lady Texans have 22 national top-10 marks, including two national-leading efforts from this past weekend: Rosemary Chukwuma in the 200 at 23.23 and the 4×100 relay at 45.98. Another strong mark from the outdoor season belongs to Joniar Thomas in the javelin at 37.34m (122-6).

New Mexico JC opens the season at No. 2. The T-Birds own 19 national top-10 marks, including two that found their way into the top-6 this past weekend: Moisha Barnes is now ranked No. 5 in the 400H at 1:06.16c, while Nadine Rose holds down the No. 6 spot in the same event at 1:07.02.

Barton County CC is ranked third in Week 1. The Cougars amassed 20 national top-10 marks on their ledger, including efforts from the indoor season. Lashanna Graham turned in an NJCAA-leading mark in the 400H this past weekend of 1:00.05. Not to be outdone, Ana Da Silva took over the No. 3 spot in the hammer throw at 56.27m (184-8) to give her a pair of top-3 marks (Da Silva is also the top-ranked athlete in the shot put).

Cloud County CC is the fourth-ranked team. The T-Birds have 15 national top-10 marks to their credit, including a few from the outdoor season thus far. Just this past weekend, Marie Forbes went 42.63m (139-11) in the discus to take over the No. 2 spot on the Descending Order List, which pairs well with her No. 3 rank in the shot put of 14.25m (46-9).

Iowa Western CC rounds out the top-5 with 15 national top-10 marks. The Reivers saw three top-5 additions this past weekend: Tirecia Walcott in the 100 (No. 5, 11.64w); Shania Parkinson in both the shot put (No. 4, 13.74m/45-1) and the discus throw (No. 5, 38.92m/127-8); and the 4×100 relay got the baton around in 46.39 for the No. 4 mark.

Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 1: No. 6 Iowa Central CC, No. 7 Central Arizona, No. 8 Butler CC, No. 9 Mesa (Ariz.) CC and No. 10 Cowley College.
