2022 NJCAA Division I Cross Country National Awards

These awards were voted on by member coaches following the NJCAA DII Cross Country Championships.

Men’s Athlete of the Year

Sanele Masondo — Colby (Kan.) CC

Masondo, who hails from Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, won the individual title at the 2022 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in 24:07.2, completing an undefeated season. He also won the individual title at the Region VI Cross Country Championships in 23:31.6, as well as the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational and the Chile Pepper XC Festival.

Men’s Coach of the Year

Brady Johnson — Colby (Kan.) CC

Johnson coached Colby (Kan.) CC to the team title at the 2022 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Led by individual winner Sanele Masondo, the Trojans had four top-10 finishers to score 38 points and win by 87 points. Colby also won the team title at the Region VI Cross Country Championships, scoring 23 points to win by 42 points.

Women’s Athlete of the Year

Faith Nyathi — El Paso (Texas) CC

Nyathi, who hails from Plumtree, Zimbabwe, won the individual title at the 2022 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in 17:47.8. It was the second-straight national title for Nyathi, who earlier won the individual title at the Region V Cross Country Championships in 17:51.5. She had runner-up finishes at both the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational and the NMJC Cross Country Invitational II.

Women’s Coach of the Year

Janae Richardson, Southern Idaho

Richardson coached College of Southern Idaho to the team title at the 2022 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Led by fifth-place finisher Natalya Babcock, the Golden Eagles had three top-10 finishers to score 61 points and win by 18 points. CSI was the leading JUCO team in every meet it entered this fall, including the Scenic West Invitational, Lewis & Clark Invitational, Frontier Conference Preview and Eastern Oregon Open.
