Cross Country Polls & Rankings
Eighteen of the top-20 teams from Week 7 shifted in Week 8 following an ultra-competitive Regional Championships Saturday, which decided entrants to the NCAA Championships.
No. 1 now belongs to Wartburg, which is the third top-ranked team this season. The Knights usurped former No. 1 UChicago, which took down former-former No. 1 SUNY Geneseo. This top billing went to Wartburg following an impressive victory at the Midwest Region Championships, where it beat two other top-10 programs, including the Maroons. The Knights, who are seeking their first national title in program history, won the regional title with 36 points (2-3-6-12-13), nine fewer than UChicago’s 45 (4-5-7-14-15).
Four out of the next five spots are occupied by regional champions: Niagara champion SUNY Geneseo at No. 2; Mid-Atlantic champion Johns Hopkins at No. 3; West champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at No. 5; and North champion Carleton at No. 6. Further down, you’ll see East champion MIT at No. 8 and Mideast champion Williams at No. 10.
Seven different programs jumped multiple spots outside of the top-10.
- East runner-up Bates went from No. 16 to No. 14
- West third-place finisher UC Santa Cruz went from No. 18 to No. 16
- Great Lakes champion John Carroll went from No. 25 to No. 19
- South runner-up Emory went from No. 30 to No. 25
- Mideast third-place finisher RPI went from No. 30 to No. 26
- Mideast fourth-place finisher Lawrence went from No. 33 to No. 28
- Metro champion Widener went from No. 35 to No. 31
