

2023 NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 1
NEW ORLEANS – Indoor season has taken off!
Here is the first edition of the NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field National TFRI, as released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). No marks from previous seasons have been used, which means this objective list is compiled solely of current marks from the 2023 indoor track & field season.

South Plains (Texas) is soaring highest as the two-time defending NJCAA indoor national champions are No. 1 in the TFRI ratings by well over 100 points. The Texans have an impressive 23 top-10 marks – with 20 of those in the top-5 and eight leading the country. Two of their nation-leading marks are also NJCAA indoor records, courtesy of Mehmet Celik in the 800 meters at 1:47.92 and Kudakwashe Chadenga in the high jump at 2.26m (7-5). Also topping the lists are Justin Guy in the 60 hurdles (7.92), Jeremy Bembridge in the 400 (47.02), Kimar Farquharson in the 600 (1:17.68), Harry Crosby in the heptathlon (4706) and two relay teams (4×400 at 3:09.66 and distance medley at 9:53.02).
Region V rival New Mexico JC is No. 2, its highest rating in program history. The T-Birds have 14 top-10 marks, all of which are also in the top-5 led by a trio of national leaders – Tapiwanashe Makarawu in the 200 at 20.83, Khylah Dawson in the long jump at 7.44m (24-5) and Kelsey Daniel in the triple jump at 15.80m (51-10).
Indian Hills (Iowa) CC follows at No. 3, its highest since Week 1 of 2021. The Warriors have 18 top-10 marks, half of which are also in the top-5. Rivaldo Marshall owns the national lead in the 1000 (2:23.23) and is No. 2 in the 600 (1:17.94) and 800 (1:48.46).
No. 4 is Barton (Kan.) CC, last year’s runner-up at the NJCAA Indoor Championships. The Cougars own 15 top-10 marks – six in the top-5 including Brandon Lloyd, who is the national leader in the shot put at 17.87m (58-7½).
Iowa Central CC is No. 5. The Tritons have 14 top-10 marks with five among the top-5. Rating highest individually for Iowa Central are a pair of athletes at No. 2 – Zander Cobb in the 5000 at 14:54.94 and Roman Kuleshov in the triple jump at 14.98m (49-1¾).
Finishing out the top-10 teams in the national TFRI are No. 6 Iowa Western CC, No. 7 Butler (Kan.) CC, No. 8 Cloud County (Kan.) CC, No. 9 Mesa (Ariz.) CC and No. 10 Monroe-New Rochelle (N.Y.).
