2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field NCAA DII High Point Award
NEW ORLEANS – High Point Athletes of the Meet from the 2023 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships were announced on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Cordell Tinch of Pittsburg State earned the honor on the men’s side, while Denisha Cartwright of Minnesota State took home recognition on the women’s side.
Tinch, who hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin, scored 30 points by completing an unprecedented triple in Pueblo, Colorado. He won the 110-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump – the first and last in record-setting fashion. Tinch opened competition on Thursday in the long jump, where he soared a meet-record 8.16m (26-9¼) on his fifth attempt to win the crown. Then, Tinch took to the track in the hurdles, where he set an NCAA DII record and meet record of 13.16 in the prelims and blasted a wind-aided 12.87 in the final for the quickest all-conditions mark in collegiate history. Tinch capped the meet with a winning clearance of 2.21m (7-3) in the high jump to complete the trifecta.
Cartwright, who hails from Nassau, Bahamas, netted 25 points between three top-4 individual finishes and a carry on a runner-up relay. She was on the track four different times on the final day of competition: winning the 100-meter hurdles in a wind-aided 12.94; finishing runner-up in the 200 meters; taking fourth in the 100 meters; and toting the baton on Minnesota State’s runner-up 4×100 relay.
