Then again, you can probably believe it.
This has been happening year in and year out.
Rose, Ezekiel Set 600-Yard CRs
Collegiate records fell in back-to-back events at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock on Saturday.
First up was the women’s 600 yards, in which LSU’s Michaela Rose raced to a time of 1:16.76 to break the 1:17.38 mark set in 1982 by Delisa Walton of Tennessee. Rose also took down Walton’s status of having the all-time world best in the event as well.
Some 15 minutes later, Nathaniel Ezekiel of Baylor eclipsed the men’s CR in the 600 yards with a time of 1:07.44 that bettered the 1:07.67 standard set in 2019 by Iowa State’s Roshon Roomes. Ezekiel’s mark rates No. 2 all-time in All-College and World compilations, trailing only the 1:06.93 set in 2020 by Moitalel Mpoke of South Plains (Texas).
Matsatsa Makes Quick Work Of 1000 Meters
Yusuf Bizimana, we hardly knew you.
Bizimana held the collegiate record in the Men’s 1000 Meters for all of six days before Tinoda Matsatsa of Georgetown demoted him to second-best. Matsatsa, a freshman, ran 2:18.05 at the Hokie Invitational to better the Texas standout’s all-time mark by just 0.05 seconds.
The Hoya has impressed early in the season with victories in each of the three open events in which he competed: 800 meters at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener where he ran 1:49.58; 600 meters at the Nittany Lion Challenge with a 1:16:68 mark; now at the Hokie Invitational with a collegiate record in the 1000 meters.
Wayt For It…
Welcome to the record book, Kenadee Wayt.
Wayt set an all-time, all-conditions NCAA DIII best in the Women’s 300 Meters on Saturday. She traversed one lap of the SPIRE Institute’s 300-meter track in 39.33.
This performance probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise, because Wayt is dynamic at both 200 meters and 400 meters. The Mount Union standout won both at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships last year, which completed a sweep of the 200-meter crowns.
