Grand Valley State is the team to beat. The Lakers will be attempting to secure their second outdoor national title in four years. GVSU has to be feeling good about this one with a pair of national leaders: Eli Kosiba in the high jump and Myles Kerner in the shot put. Accompanying them are another nine top-10 individuals between seven events.
How about a third consecutive title? Pittsburg State would sure hope so. The Gorillas strung together back-to-back outdoor national titles in 2022 and 2023 and are one week away from making the magic happen again. What is the key to their success you ask? Well, it’s a whole bunch of things, or people rather. It’s Joel Nyatusah in the 110-meter hurdles, Hunter Jones in the decathlon, and the entire 4x100m relay. At least, those are Pittsburg State’s national leaders who will head the charge this weekend along with eight other top-10 individuals.
West Texas A&M has come agonizingly close to an outdoor national title the last three years in a row. The Buffs have eight athletes in eight events with nine top-10 marks. Isaac Botsio and William Amponsah, are national leaders in the 100 meters and 10,000 meters, respectively.
Missouri Southern has flown under the radar for far too long. Not only have the Lions never won a national title, they’ve never even touched the podium. This year, that might just change, and without the help of a national leader. The Lions have relied on a combination of points spanning across the board from the 110H to the javelin. Nine individuals cover the likes of eight events for a total of 12 top-10 marks.
Minnesota State began the season unranked and now the Mavericks are in prime position to land on the podium thanks to nine top-10 performances this season Shemar Miller remains the only national leader on Minnesota State’s roster in the triple jump, but guys like James Gilbert, Jabez Reeves, and Anthony Collins aren’t far behind.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 9: No. 6 Wingate, No. 7 Harding, No. 8 Azusa Pacific, No. 9 Central Missouri and No. 10 Fresno Pacific.
