2017 NJCAA DIII Outdoor Team Rankings – Week 5
NEW ORLEANS — If you were hoping for mass changes in the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Team Rankings, you might just want to check back again next week.
The 5th week of rankings, released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), showed that the top-10 women’s teams remained in the same spots they were a week ago, while all but 2 teams in the men’s top-10 froze in their respective spots.

Montgomery-Rockville’s men’s team moved to 8th, dropping Bergen (N.J.) CC to 9th in what was the lone top-10 movement on either side of the rankings this week. Five top-10 marks on the descending order list, including 2 from Ernest Long in the 800 meters and 1500 meters, helped propel the Raptors back into 8th after slipping to 9th a week ago.
Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) CC remained in 1st thanks in large part to USTFCCCA NJCAA Division III Men’s National Athlete of the Week Jake Caruso, who ran the top 1500 meter mark on the descending order list this past weekend at 4:08.25.
The Raptors are followed by Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC, Harper (Ill.), Onondaga (N.Y.) CC and Howard (Md.) CC in the top-5.
Harper (Ill.) held down the top spot on the women’s side for the 3rd-straight week, followed by Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC, Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) CC, Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC and Herkimer County (N.Y.).
Finger Lakes (N.Y.) CC’s men’s team moved up to a season-best 12th after making the largest leap on either side this week. Climbing 4 spots behind 3 top-10 descending order list marks – including Jake Bailey’s 10:23.74 steeplechase mark that stands as 3rd-best in the country this year – the Lakers season has mimicked theirs of a year ago, when the team started the year at 20th, moved to 16th in the next rankings before settling at 12th during the 5th week of the season.
On the women’s side Sullivan County (N.Y.) CC climbed 3 spots for the largest ascension of the week by a women’s program. The Generals got 3 top-10 descending order list performances over the weekend at the USCAA Invitational, helping the team reach a program-best 15th in the rankings.
The 2017 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Columbia, Maryland, on May 11-13. Check back at www.USTFCCCA.org each week throughout the season for updated rankings.
