2018 NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll – Week 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wayland Baptist (Texas) adds their first regular-season No. 1 rank after a big season opener, the national office announced on Wednesday.
The Pioneers, who placed second in the 12-team Texas Tech Cross Country Open this past weekend, earned 14 of 20 possible first-place votes.
Taylor (Ind.) had six first place votes of their own and sit No. 2 in the Week 1 poll, while Milligan (Tenn.) captured the lone remaining vote and are No. 4.
Oregon Tech is ranked third and Madonna (Mich.) rounds out the top-5 at No. 5.
The 2018 NAIA Cross Country Championships will be held November 16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999)
- The Pioneers opened their season placing second out of 12 in the Texas Tech Cross Country Open.
- Wayland Baptist Women’s Cross Country came in right behind Texas Tech in the Country Open.
- Simon Fraser (B.C.) holds the record for the most No. 1 rankings with 41 all time.
- College of Idaho holds the record for the longest consecutively-ranked active school, appearing in 76-straight polls, followed by Carroll (Mont.) with 66.
