2021 NCAA DIII Women’s Cross Country Regional Rankings – Week 3
NEW ORLEANS – Business is about to pick up!
Here is the newest edition of the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Regional Rankings for Week 3 of the 2021 season. Only three of the nine regions saw changes in their respective top-5, but that just means it’s the calm before a storm of activity this upcoming weekend.
Regional Championships Saturday is set for Saturday, November 13!
East Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the East Region.
MIT and Bates remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Tufts, No. 4 WPI and No. 5 Brandeis. There was some great intraregional racing this past weekend, as MIT, Tufts and WPI all competed at the Purple Valley Classic, with the Cambridge-based Engineers posting the best overall finish (second). The Bobcats didn’t race, but head to the Maine State Championship this upcoming weekend to face Colby and Bowdoin, among others.
Great Lakes Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the Great Lakes Region.
Calvin and Hope remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 John Carroll, No. 4 Case Western Reserve and No. 5 Allegheny (Pa.). None of those top-5 teams raced this past weekend, but will be out in full force this upcoming weekend: the Knights and the Flying Dutch will both compete at the Live in the Lou Classic; the Blue Streaks and the Gators will both compete at the Paul Short Run; the Spartans will compete at the Mike Woods Invitational.
Metro Region
There was a small change to the order of the top-5 teams in the Metro Region.
Haverford and Swarthmore remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 TCNJ, but Stockton leapfrogged both Moravian and Ursinus into the No. 4 spot, which dropped them down to No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The Ospreys ran well at the NJAIAW Championships this past weekend, winning the team title with 48 points and putting three runners in the top-10.
Mid-Atlantic Region
There were a few changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Johns Hopkins and Dickinson remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Carnegie Mellon, but Misericordia and Franklin & Marshall both leapfrogged Elizabethtown, which moved them up to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. The Cougars and the Blue Jays went head-to-head at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational with the former finishing sixth and the latter placing eighth in the combined scoring.
Mideast Region
There was a small change to the order of the top-5 teams in the Mideast Region.
Williams and Amherst remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Middlebury and No. 4 RPI, but St. Lawrence leapfrogged Wesleyan (Conn.) into the No. 5 spot. Both the Ephs and the Panthers competed at the Purple Valley Classic this past weekend with the former taking home the team title with 54 points. The Engineers captured top honors at the Saratoga Invitational, while the Saints won the Richard C. Hoffman Invitational with just 20 points.
Midwest Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the Midwest Region.
Wartburg and UChicago remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Washington (Mo.), No. 4 Loras and No. 5 Elmhurst. None of those top-5 teams competed this past weekend, but are rested up for an exciting weekend coming up: the Knights and the Bears will face each other at the Dan Huston Invitational; the Blue Jays, Duhawks and Maroons will all face each other at the Brissman Lundeen Invitational.
Niagara Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the Niagara Region.
SUNY Geneseo and RIT remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Rochester (N.Y.), No. 4 Ithaca and No. 5 St. John Fisher. The Knights picked up a convincing victory at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational and topped the Yellowjackets in the process. Four of those top-5 teams will compete at the Mike Woods Invitational: SUNY Geneseo (host), RIT, Rochester (N.Y.) and Ithaca.
North Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the North Region.
UW-La Crosse and Carleton remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 UW-Eau Claire, No. 4 St. Olaf and No. 5 Gustavus Adolphus. Both the Knights and the Golden Gusties competed at the Running of the Cows with the former romping to the team title, thanks to putting all seven runners in the top-10. Look for both the Blugold and the Oles to compete at the Blugold Invitational this upcoming weekend, while the Eagles travel to the Live in the Lou Classic.
South Region
There was a small change to the order of the top-5 teams in the South Region.
Emory and Lynchburg remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 Washington and Lee and No. 4 Rhodes, but Mary Washington jumped to No. 5. The Hornets fared well at the Queen City Invitational this past weekend, while the Generals and the Eagles fought hard at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational and Hornet Harrier Invitational, respectively.
West Region
There were no changes to the order of the top-5 teams in the West Region.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 George Fox, No. 4 UC Santa Cruz, No. 5 Colorado College. Three of those top-5 teams competed this past weekend, with only the Sagehens using their top-7 runners. Pomona-Pitzer, who finished fourth out of 14 teams at the NCAA DII-centric Cougar Challenge, saw Katie Cline and Genevieve DiBari place second and third overall, respectively.
