The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution’s finish at the NAIA Championships.

In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NAIA Championships. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NAIA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

Men’s Story

Cumberlands (Ky.) leads Dordt (Iowa), 4-10 in terms of POY points. The Patriots won their first-ever indoor track & field title earlier this month after taking a program-high third place in cross country in November. The Defenders – who won the Jack Hazen Men’s Program of the Year award for 2022-23 – were runners-up indoors after finishing eighth in cross country.

A tight threesome follows: The Master’s (Calif.) (21), Oklahoma City (23) and regularly contending Indiana Wesleyan (24). The Wildcats were runner-up in each of the last three years after winning the award in 2018-19.

Women’s Story

The Master’s (Calif.) is in the lead for the Fred Beile Program of the Year with 8.5 POY points, followed closely by College of Idaho, which has 11.5 POY points. That’s a reverse of the order at the cross country championships, where the Yotes captured their first-ever harrier title. At the recent indoor track & field championships, the Mustangs tied for sixth and Idaho tied for 10th.

Taylor (Ind.) has a one-point lead over Cumberlands (Ky.), 17-18, for third with Concordia (Neb.) (21.5) completing the top-5.
