Chris Reed put himself into contention as one of the best throwers to ever come through the NCAA Division II level in his four-year career at Minnesota State.
That’s why Reed is now enshrined in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame as only the second Maverick to earn the prestigious honor.
By the time Reed graduated in 2014, he won two NCAA titles and placed runner-up twice more at the national level, captured 13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) crowns and earned 11 All-America honors between indoor and outdoor track & field.
Reed also left his mark on the NCAA DII record book as the then-No. 2 performer in the indoor shot put at 20.07m (65-10¼) and the then-No. 3 performer in the outdoor shot put at 19.99m (65-7).
He was especially prolific outdoors, where he starred in three of the four throwing events offered: discus, hammer and shot put. Reed nabbed All-America honors in each of those events as a junior and senior, and swept the slate clean at the 2014 NSIC Outdoor Championships.
