Micah Chelimo was as consistent as they come in distance events during his illustrious career at Alaska Anchorage. That’s a big reason as to why he’s being inducted into the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame.
A year didn’t go by that Chelimo didn’t either win an NCAA title, capture a conference title in the always-loaded Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and/or earn multiple All-America honors.
From 2010 to 2014, Chelimo won three NCAA titles (four, if you count cross country), placed runner-up at the national level twice more, added 10 conference crowns – including the only indoor mile-3000-5000 sweep by a male athlete in conference history in 2013 – and finished among the top-8 athletes at the NCAA meet eight total times.
Many won’t soon forget the riveting performance Chelimo turned in at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he won the 3000-meter title by .01 seconds over Kevin Batt of Adams State and finished runner-up by .03 seconds to the same man in the 5000.
Chelimo is the first athlete in UAA program history to be inducted into the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame.
