Zada Swoopes was named the National Women’s Field Athlete of the Year for the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season. Swoopes, who hails from Whitewright, Texas, won the discus and shot put at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships, in addition to a fourth-place effort in the hammer. She became the fourth-best performer in meet history thanks to her winning effort of 56.84m (186-6). Swoopes scored 30 points at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships thanks to a sweep of those aforementioned event titles. She also added yet another all-time top-15 mark to the NCAA DII annals in the shot put during the season.
