Shippensburg women win 400 and 3,000 meter events at Kutztown
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior Shannon Hare and sophomore Abby Huber each won an event as the Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team returned to action on Thursday and Friday at the Golden Bear Invitational from Keystone Field House on the campus of Kutztown University.
Hare easily won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.64 seconds, while freshman Megan Buckheit finished second with a time of 1:04.20. Freshman Kady Taylor earned fourth place with a time of 1:04.97. Huber won the 3,000-meters by more than 16 seconds with a time of 10:29.95.
Senior Siobhan Richards finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.66 seconds after qualifying in 7.59 seconds. Freshman Brittney Waters finished ninth in 7.80 seconds. Richards finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.41 seconds while Waters placed eighth in 28.62 seconds.
Freshman Diane Cressman cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to earn second place. In the pentathon completed on Thursday, freshman Jessica Yates took third place with 2,257 while senior Ashleigh Helfrick finished fourth with 2,108 points. Freshman Katie Slonaker earned 1,824 points.
Shippensburg returns to action for a big meet on Saturday, January 17, when the team will compete in the Bucknell Heptagonal.
