NEW ORLEANS – A team title and two more school records capped the Texas A&M Aggies track and field weekend at the Armory as they competed in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. As a result, the A&M women remained atop the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Indoor Track and Field rankings.
A&M held a two-point team advantage over Baylor heading into the final event at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and needed to finish ahead of the Bears in the 4×400 meter relay. The Aggies did just that finishing fourth overall, just ahead of Baylor in the race standings. The win marked the second time in three years the A&M women have won the meet.
Tennessee saw no change in its ranking this week as the Lady Vols remained at No. 2. UT’s DMR squad had an impressive weekend as the foursome of Phoebe Wright, Sarah Bowman, Brittany Jones, and Chanelle Price wiped out the previously-recognized American record of 10:59.46, set by North Carolina at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. running 10:56.40.
Oregon and Michigan flip-flopped spots this week as Oregon moved up one spot to No. 3, while Michigan fell one spot to No. 4. LSU remained at No. 5 in the rankings this week.
The Florida State Seminoles moved up two spots to No. 6 in the rankings followed by Texas at No. 7.
Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Arizona State round out the women’s top ten rankings.
The Lady Razorbacks begin the bottom half of the top 20 followed by Arizona, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Minnesota, North Carolina, Florida, BYU, Stanford, and Nebraska.
Louisville, Miami, UTEP, Auburn, and Baylor complete the women’s top 25.
