SAN ANGELO, Texas – St. Augustine junior Barbara Pierre, and Lincoln (Mo.) freshman Samoy Hackett surprised the crowd at the Division II Outdoor National Championship meet with record times in the 100 meter prelims on Thursday, day one of competition. Running in heat one of the race was Hackett who raced out to an 11.26 second time defeating the next closest in her heat by nearly three tenths of second. The time would have stood as the number five best all-time in Division II, that was until Pierre lined up on the track.
The junior’s time clocked an amazing 11.18 seconds setting a new St. Augustine’s school record and shaving the previous Division II women’s 100 meter mark (11.20) by two one hundreths of a second.
The women’s champion in the 100 meters will be determined on Saturday, May 23rd at approximately 7:08 p.m. CDT.
