Middlebury Takes over Top Spot in Women’s Division III XC Poll

NEW ORLEANS (September 9, 2009) – Despite being idle over the weekend Middlebuy College took over sole possession of the number one ranking in the women’s Cross Country Top 35 Coaches’ Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday afternoon.

Middlebury was tied for the top overall spot in the women’s rankings with Calvin College (No. 2) in the preseason poll. Both Middlebury and Calvin College were idle over the weekend and will kick off their 2009 seasons with home meets on September 19th.

Washington University (Missouri), Wartburg, and Johns Hopkins all remained the same this week. Washington hosted and won the Big River Running Early Bird, while Wartburg competed in a dual meet with Black Hills State. Johns Hopkins opened its season in the Baltimore Metro Championships. JHU had seven of the top eight finishers to take home the team title over several Division I schools.
