North Central Remains No. 1 in Men’s Division III XC

NEW ORLEANS (September 23, 2009) – North Central College remained the No. 1 team in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men’s Cross Country Top 35 Coaches’ Poll after winning the Illinois Intercollegiates with a score of 56 points. North Central defeated several Division I teams in the process.
North Central received seven of the eight first-place votes and earned 279 points for the second straight ranking. The Cardinals take next week off before splitting the squad on October 2, sending the varsity to the Notre Dame Invitational while the rest of the team will travel to Kenosha, Wis. for the Carthage Invitational.
Wisconsin La Crosse, Cortland State, and Williams all remained the same this week, Nos. 3-5 in the rankings. La Crosse competed in the UW Whitewater Invite and finished third overall while Cortland State ran in the Ronald Hoffman Invitational, winning the meet with 20 points. Williams was in action at Middlebury College for the Panther Invitational and finished second in the team standings.
Completing the men’s top five this week is Allegheny which moved up one spot this week after winning the Knight Invitational over seventh-ranked Calvin.
This week’s biggest mover in the rankings is Keene State which was previously unranked. Keene State had an impressive outing at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational winning the event with 68 points, almost 30 more than the next team. Keene State will next be in action at home on October 3rd as the team hosts the Keene State Invitational.
Also entering the rankings this week was No. 19 Oberlin, and No. 34 Manchester.
