For many NCAA Division II Cross Country teams there seasons will come to a close this weekend with the beginning of the postseason for cross country in Division II as several conferences will hold their annual conference championships, but for others this weekend will mark the start of a “championship” season.
It all begins on the men’s side in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference where three of the top five teams and four of the top 25 will square off against each other. Top-ranked Adams State is the favorite to win the conference championship but Western State, ranked second, will give them all they can handle. Colorado School of Mines will also try and break Adams’ streak of RMAC titles.
In the Midwest the battle for the men’s Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title should be between No. 12 Central Missouri, No. 13 Missouri Southern State, No. 19 Pittsburg State, or No. 20 Southwest Baptist.
On the women’s side, top-ranked Chico State will battle No. 23 UC San Diego and No. 25 Cal State LA for the California Collegiate Athletic Association cross country title.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships should be interesting as three of the top ten teams in the country – No. 5 Alaska Anchorage, No. 7 Seattle Pacific, and No. 8 Western Washington – will face-off for the team title won by SPU last year.
The RMAC conference should also be a good one on the women’s side with four teams in the top 25 set to compete against each other this weekend led by No. 4 Adams State.
Other notable women’s top 25 action this weekend – No. 2 Grand Valley State looks to win their ninth consecutive GLIAC title while No. 3 Missouri Southern State seeks its fourth straight MIAA title.
