Grand Valley State Presented With 2008-09 Division II Program of the Year Award

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Sam Seemes, CEO of the USTFCCCA, presented the Division II Women’s Program of the Year Award to Grand Valley State University Friday night in a ceremony held in conjunction with the Lakers’ Bob Eubanks Open. Representing Grand Valley State University was University President, Thomas J. Haas, Athletics Director, Tim Selgo, and Head Coach Jerry Baltes.

2008-09 Division II Women’s Program of the Year Results

In 2008-09, Grand Valley State’s women placed second nationally at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, second at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and in fourth place at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to capture the inaugural award. The Lakers, with eight total points, finished ahead of Adams State who tabulated 21 points on the season.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year award celebrates athletic programs that have performed as the nation’s best in the sports of cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Presented by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, scoring for the Program of the Year award is based on final team finishes at the national championships in these three sports during the 2008-09 school year.
