The Pointers of UW Stevens Point Replace Conference Foe as Division III No. 1 Team
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday morning the latest indoor track & field national team rankings for NCAA Division III. The Pointers of UW Stevens Point (163.14) took over the top-ranked spot in the men’s rankings this week, replacing conference foe UW Oshkosh (145.02) who slipped to No. 2. Wartburg (146.71) continues as the No. 1 on the women’s side for the second-consecutive week as the top four women’s teams remained the same from last week.

Dual Meet Index Update
UW Stevens Point jumped from their previous perch at No. 2, in which they held the two weeks previous, as a result of running the nation’s leading DMR time of 9:56.85 and the second-ranked 4×400-meter relay time 3:18.25 last weekend at their home Pointer Eastbay Invitational. WIAC conference foe UW Oshkosh moved to No. 2 while another conference friend UW La Crosse held at No. 5. Additional WIAC members include No. 8 UW Whitewater and No. 13 UW Stout. The WIAC Championships will be held this weekend in Platteville, Wis., beginning Friday.
The women’s rankings did not see much movement at the top from last weekend as the top four spots, belonging to No. 1 Wartburg, No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 3 MIT, and No. 4 TCNJ remain unchanged. Chicago moved back up to the top five after improving four of its season bests into the national top 10, including a performance by weight-thrower Claire Ray who took over the national lead in her event with a 62-6¾ (19.07m) mark last weekend.
Next week, week seven, will represent the last national team rankings containing all marks from the season. The week eight rankings, to be released on Tuesday, March 9, will include only data of those declared for the NCAA Indoor Championships to be held later that week.
