NEW ORLEANSFor the second year in a row, the Williams College Ephs are the 2009 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Men’s Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Friday.  Williams finished second overall at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

Williams won the New England Regional Championship, a fifth-straight ECAC Championship, and a fourth-straight NESCAC Championship on the way to their 2009 runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships. Williams, which maintains a cumulative 3.39 grade point average, also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute had the highest overall team grade point average (3.68).  A record total of 110 Division III men’s programs received the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Team honors this year compared to 103 schools earning the honor last season.

In addition, six of the top ten and an incredible 20 of the top 25 teams in the championship field at this year’s NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

The New England Small College Athletic Conference led all conferences with a total of nine schools on the All-Academic team list. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference followed closely behind with eight schools earning All-Academic honors.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet.  The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average.
