Multiple Clinic Sessions to Cover Hurdles

The hurdle events will be well covered at the USTFCCCA convention coaching symposiums in San Antonio this December.  Between them,  Indiana State’s John McNichols, Virginia Tech’s Charles Foster and Iowa’s Joey Woody have decades of success both coaching and competing in the hurdle events.

For nearly 30 years, John McNichols has guided the Sycamore sprinters and hurdlers to success at the conference, national and international levels.  He served as the Hurdles Broad Event Chair (2000-2009) for the USATF Men’s Development Committee and was 110 meter hurdles chair from 1989 to 1999. McNichols served on multiple national team staffs including Assistant Coach North Team at the ’95 U.S. Olympic Festival, Head Men’s Coach ’99 Junior Pan Am Championships and Assistant Coach for Sprints & Hurdles at the ’07 Pam Am Games.

Charles Foster has enjoyed success at every level of the sport. He been a part of 19 ACC championship teams during his coaching career and was a world record holder and a USA Olympian himself. Foster has coached two Olympic gold medalists, one silver medalist and a bronze medalist, along with 12 Olympians and more than 50 All-Americans.

Joey Woody is in his third season as the sprints – hurdles coach with the University of Iowa track team. During the past decade Woody has run competitively on the international track circuit, earning a spot on three United States World teams. In 2003, he won the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the World Championships and was ranked second in the world in the event. Woody was also part of the 1,600-meter relay which won the World Championships gold medal in 1999.
