DII National Cross Country Rankings — Week 2

NEW ORLEANS – On Wednesday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its week one national team rankings for the 2011 NCAA Division II cross country season. Since preseason rankings were announced about a month ago, the top seven men’s teams remain unchanged as Adams State keeps their No. 1 standing. On the women’s side, Chico State moved from third to No. 2 whule Ferris State made a big leap from No. 7 to No. 3 in the country.

AROUND THE POLLS

MEN
— The top seven spots in the men’s rankings are unchanged from the preseason rankings announced on August 24th.
— At No. 9, UMass Lowell cracked the top ten for the first time this season.
— New to the top 25 from the preseason are No. 16 Southern Connecticut and No. 24 Harding.
— The RMAC is still the top conference with five teams in the top 25, followed by the GNAC, Northeast-10, and PSAC with three apiece.

WOMEN
— Four are new to the top 25 this week: No. 17 Lock Haven, No. 20 Southern Indiana, No. 23 Pittsburg State, and No. 25 San Francisco State.
— The CCAA, MIAA, NSIC, and PSAC each have three teams in the top 25 to lead all conferences.

The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 19, in Spokane, Wash. NCAA Regional Championships will be held two weeks prior on the weekend of November 5.
