By Tom Lewis, USTFCCCA

September 17, 2012

NEW ORLEANS – Week-two regional rankings for NCAA Division I cross country have been released. Still early in the season, many rankers decided to keep several teams in their preseason standing. The main portion of the regular season will begin this weekend as meet results starting September 21 can be used in consideration for at-large team selection to the NCAA Championships. The only change to No. 1 teams in the regional rankings this week is Washington’s women were put ahead of Oregon, placing them in-line with the consensus of last week’s national coaches’ poll.

Current No. 1 teams by region as selected by regional representatives: Wisconsin (Great Lakes), Princeton (Mid-Atlantic), Oklahoma State (Midwest), BYU (Mountain), Iona (Northeast), Florida State (South), Texas (South Central), NC State (Southeast), Portland (West). Top women’s teams by region: Michigan (Great Lakes), Georgetown (Mid-Atlantic), Iowa State (Midwest), Weber State (Mountain), Providence (Northeast), Florida State (South), Arkansas (South Central), Virginia (Southeast), Washington (West).

NCAA Division I Regional Championships will be held on Friday, November 9. NCAA DI Regional Championships Central.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
