DI Regional Cross Country Rankings: 2012 Week #3

By Tom Lewis, USTFCCCA

September 24, 2012

NEW ORLEANS – The regional-rankings report for NCAA Division I cross country has reached the third regular-season week. Although the NCAA’s “counting period” for head-to-head wins has begun, many teams sat idle this weekend, opting to start the main part of their seasons this upcoming weekend.

PDF: Regional Rankings Summary | Week-by-Week

Cross Country Regional Rankings / National Polls Central

With the largely quiet week around the nation, there was only one region in which changes were made to the top-two teams. In the women’s Southeast region, NC State is now the No. 1 team and North Carolina is No. 2.

Current No. 1 teams by region as selected by regional representatives: Wisconsin (Great Lakes), Princeton (Mid-Atlantic), Oklahoma State (Midwest), BYU (Mountain), Iona (Northeast), Florida State (South), Texas (South Central), NC State (Southeast), Portland (West). Top women’s teams by region: Michigan (Great Lakes), Georgetown (Mid-Atlantic), Iowa State (Midwest), Weber State (Mountain), Providence (Northeast), Florida State (South), Arkansas (South Central), Virginia (Southeast), Washington (West).

New to the regional rankings for the first time this year is LSU’s women who are ranked No. 11 in the South Central region.

NCAA Division I Regional Championships will be held on Friday, November 9. NCAA DI Regional Championships Central.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
