Regional Team Rankings In Division II XC Hold Relatively Steady
NEW ORLEANS – All is quiet on the regional front in NCAA Division II Cross Country. For the most part, at least.
In the second regular season edition of the Regional Team Rankings released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), only one of 16 regions – eight for men and eight for women – saw movement among their top three teams.

QUICK LINKS: Men’s Regions | Women’s Regions
The lone top-three movers were the UC San Diego women, who moved up to No. 3 in the West Region. The Tritons finished just behind the top two teams in the region, Chico State and Simon Fraser, in the team standings at the Stanford Invitational.
Moving up to No. 4 in their respective regions were the Cal Poly Pomona men (West) after winning at Cal State San Bernardino and the West Alabama women (South), who sit just outside the threshold of the South’s three bids to the NCAA Championships on December 6 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Among previously ranked teams, the biggest gainers were the women of Northern Michigan. The Wildcats jumped up four spots to No. 6 in the Midwest following a third-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in the Maroon II race.
Joining the men’s regional rankings were Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth (Central Region); Metro State (South Central); and Humboldt State, Azusa Pacific and Cal State Stanislaus (West).
West Virginia Wesleyan (Atlantic); Minnesota State (Central); Philadelphia and St. Thomas Aquinas (East); Bellarmine (Midwest); West Georgia (South); Mars Hill (Southeast) and Humboldt State (West) were the women’s teams that entered into the women’s regional rankings.
The upcoming weekend – with the Great Louisville Classic, Notre Dame Invitational and several other big meets – should serve to stir up the Regional Team Rankings going forward.
The National Coaches Polls will be released Wednesday. Regionals will be held around the country on November 22 and 23. More information can be found on the USTFCCCA’s Regional Championships Central.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
