QA2 Max: An Interview With Indiana State’s John Mascari
NEW ORLEANS – Indiana State senior John Mascari couldn’t wait to race again.
An injury limited his effectiveness in the waning weeks of the 2015 outdoor season and Mascari wanted to show everybody he was still a force to be reckoned with. After all, Mascari finished eighth at the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and set a career best in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational (28:32.22).
Mascari built his base back up in the summer and hit the ground running at last weekend’s Evansville Mid-America Opener. Treating it as a tempo run, Mascari beat the field by nine seconds and led the Sycamores to a second-place team finish.
We found out what it was like for Mascari to come back from injury as well as his thoughts on the rest of the season. We also asked him what it means to be the face of his hometown cross country program (Mascari grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana and never wavered during his college recruitment).
Plus, don’t forget we have a live podcast Tuesday, September 15 at 12 p.m. EST (11 a.m. CST) as we unveil the second USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll of the season.
