Slight Movement In DIII Regional Team Rankings

Slight Movement In DIII Regional Team Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – While each No. 1 team from last week remained atop of their respective regions, there was some movement elsewhere in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Regional Team Rankings as released Tuesday afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

No men’s region changed more than the Central Region, headed by St. Olaf College. Loras College moved up a spot to No. 2, while St. Thomas (Minnesota) surged four places from No. 7 to No. 3. The Tommies finished third at last weekend’s St. Olaf Invitational behind meet champion St. Olaf and UW-Eau Claire (Midwest No. 3).

Outside of St. Thomas (Minn.), no men’s team climbed more than four spots. Bates College jumped from No. 7 to No. 4 in the New England Region. The Rose-Hulman Fightin’ Engineers tumbled the most in the men’s Regional Team Rankings, falling six spots (No. 4 to No. 10) in the Great Lakes Region.

The only new additions to the men’s Regional Team Rankings are Hamilton (Atlantic No. 8), Redlands (West No. 9) and Eastern Mennonite (South/Southeast No. 10).

On the women’s side, the region most affected by change was the South/Southeast Region. Rhodes is the new No. 2, while Christopher Newport fell to No. 3. Bridgewater (Va.) and Washington and Lee swapped spots to No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. UT Tyler went from No. 10 to No. 7, while Centre lost its footing and went from No. 6 to No. 10.

There are four new additions to the women’s polls: Brandies (New England No. 7), DeSales (Mideast No. 10), Nebraska Wesleyan (Central No. 10) and Oberlin (Great Lakes No. 10).

NCAA Division III Regional Championships will be held around the country on Saturday, November 14 with the NCAA Championships happening just one week later in Winnecone, Wisconsin at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams’ strength with current season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
